To win possession from the opposition is always a coach’s request.

There are many ways of gaining possession and the most common gain would from an intercept. Some players are efficient in their anticipation of the ball when intercepting and others struggle. Intercepting a ball is a skill that needs to be practiced.

When players go for an intercept they do take a risk. The player leaves their opposition and also drives away from the area they were positioned to defend. It is a risk that pays off and therefore is a skill that continually needs work. It is an important skill if coaching the zone.
