Zoning is a defence that concentrates on space not players.

The aim draw the opposition into thinking there are spaces available to pass into although the zone covers all the court. If all players are zoning the chances of gaining possession are very high.

If one player relaxes, this will break the zone. Also if a player picks up an opposition player the zone will be broken. Zoning creates the opportunity for players to intercept.

  • I met Melissa O’Brien some 15 years ago at a Level 1 Coaching clinic at which she was the presenter.

I was instantly impressed by her enthusiasm and her ability to make the whole weekend lots of fun whilst at the same time to learn a great deal of coaching ideas to pass onto players.
