Rain No Train - the Squash Court alternative

Written by Melissa O'Brien

Week after week the development of your team may be affected by weather.  There is an alternative and that is utilising a squash court as your training venue.

Find out if you have one in your area and somewhere near the courts.  If rain has started early in the day, book the court as a back up just in case the rain has continued.

Check with Squash Court Management that it’s ok and inform them that you will be coaching a netball training session so there will be bouncing balls.  You will usually find they have never experienced a netball session in a squash court.  The bouncing of netballs can be a distraction to other squashies, although I personally have never had any complaints.

There is one session available on the website under ‘Training Sessions’ then go into ‘Passing’.
We are currently working on a selection of squash court sessions which will be theme based.

The beauty of squash court training is the intensity of the session and the ability to do short, sharp work with footwork and passing. Using the walls is a great indication of technique as walls don’t lie and a poor pass will come back the same way as it was sent.

Coaches subscribed to the Energy Netball Website will be informed on new material being posted so keep an eye out for the squash court sessions.

I have been coached by Melissa O’Brien for the past 6 years.

Throughout this time Mel has been a great mentor and friend both on and off the netball court and is a coach who is highly respected by her players.
